Discrimination is when you are treated unfairly because you are different. You are protected from discrimination through the Equality Act 2010.

The Equality Act protects nine characteristics. The Act makes it illegal to discriminate based on any one or more of these characteristics. The Act protects everyone against discrimination because we all share some of these characteristics, such as sex and age.

This is illegal discrimination if you are treated unfairly by someone who believes you belong to a protected group.

If you complain about discrimination
